Classroom Support

Putting people in front of technology

Summer 2009

Released June 8th, 2009

Greetings Faculty and Staff,

On behalf of the Classroom Support staff, we hope you are having a great summer. We have a busy classroom upgrade schedule this year. Here is a summary of the many projects in the works that may affect a classroom you care about. Throughout the summer, we will be contacting faculty and staff to ask for feedback regarding these upgrades. If you are not contacted, but have something to say, please E-mail: classrooms@unl.edu.

Enhance General Purpose Classroomsan Information Services Strategic Initiative

Last fall, we embarked on a project to address aging equipment in several of our General Purpose classrooms and lecture halls. Upon completion, 32 of the 73 fully supported IS classrooms will be impacted by this project. These enhancements will be fully realized as work is completed this summer. For more information on this, and other IS projects, visit: http://is.unl.edu/projects/.

Othmer 105, 106 and 110

General Purpose classrooms in Othmer received 4- and 8-year equipment cycles this year. During the first part of the summer, we conducted a complete technology renovation of these rooms. Projectors, screens & furnishings were all replaced, but the most notable change will, no doubt, be the addition of continuous whiteboards at the front of each room. Whiteboards and whiteboard task lighting were provided via contributions from Academic Affairs.

Rooms 105 and 110 have been installed with our small classroom standard. One larger screen has now been installed, replacing the two smaller screens. The touch panel control system has been replaced with a system 7 switcher that controls the projector, screen, source selections and volume levels.

For more information regarding our control systems, visit our website; http://itg.unl.edu/classroom/controls

Henzlik 124

Henzlik 124 will also be getting 4- and 8-year equipment replacements. Some are long overdue, like the screen that we’ve been struggling to keep operational during the past few years. In fact, the primary change will be the screen configuration. The one giant screen will be replaced with two independently controlled screens, so that two images may be displayed or one image and a chalkboard. And don’t forget to explore our Extended View feature in this room and other dual projector lecture halls all over campus. Make the most of your computing power. Show two presentations simultaneously or any combination of programs, websites, etc. Setup is easy, just tap the Quick Start button on the touch panel and choose your extended view configuration. LLS 102

Love Library South 102 will also see some positive changes this summer. The sticky screen that has become a rather pesky annoyance will finally be replaced. We are also hoping to address the audio system which seems to have developed a case of the buzz.

GP classrooms to be supported by IS this fall

Just before the Fall semester begins, Facilities will be finishing up work in several General Purpose classrooms throughout campus. As part of these renovations, Facilities will be adding the necessary infrastructure for multimedia technology in just under twenty rooms. Though we cannot outfit all of these rooms at this time, the electrical, networking, conduits and junction boxes will be there for future installations. Academic Affairs has funded five small classroom standard installations, three in CBA and two in Nebraska Hall. We will have these rooms ready to go for the Fall semester, and our staff will be available should you have any questions. Meet the staff on our website; http://itg.unl.edu/classroom/help.

Thanks for your time, and have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Jeff Erb
