Strategic Initiatives
Information Services has established a set of Strategic Initiatives for the 2009-10 academic school year. Highlighting The 21st Century Learner, the Instructional Technology Group has started a conversation with our administration to take the lead in fostering this effort.
Support a 21st Century Learning Environment
Information technology in higher education is a stated expectation of both students and faculty. It is an integral tool in recruiting new students. It is also a tool that enriches the individual learning experience and can aid retention of both students and faculty. Examples of such technology can be found in classrooms and those services that extend our Academy beyond the physical campus into the world.
- Increase general purpose classrooms supported by IS
- Develop alternate funding solutions for support of general purpose classrooms
- Conduct ongoing review of emerging technologies
- Develop 'one stop shop' for faculty to request instructional resources and services
Though a formal plan has not been finalized, the New Media Center will be implementing changes to support this initiative. Historically, the center offers services to UNL faculty and staff through our multimedia consultative, self-authoring and production-based services. Though in the formative stage, we will be collaborating with our Student Labs group as well as the Student Technology Training program to extend our offerings to students in the form of a student technology advising center.
This new offering will allow more learner/teacher interaction through the use of shared technology resources and expertise. We will continue to use progressive communication tools through social technologies and collaborative tools. Specifically we will extend information collaboration in an open venue through faculty, staff, and student blogs, Twitter conversations, and others. Please contact us if you have interest in these technologies or technology ideas you are currently integrating into your courses.
